Excerpts from Jill Dare
Incontinence products are designed to deal with a leak of fecal matter or urine or both, and confidence in your adult diaper or brief is essential because the problem can have a huge impact on your life. It has a psychological and emotional side to it as the stress increases the pressure on the incontinence sufferer . Incontinence supplies these days represent the very best that technology has to offer. The products have improved exponentially as the technology has advanced, incontinence in women and in men are more manageable than it has been in the past.
Levels of incontinence can be described as being...
Light
More women than men suffer from light incontinence as it is often associated with other physical stages, such as pregnancy, and childbirth. The extra pressure on the bladder puts stress on the bladder walls and makes the likelihood of a leak more probable than normal. As many as forty percent of menopausal women find that they suffer from stress incontinence, which can restrict their life. Some women only feel that their bladder is full all the time; others have a leak or a drip of urine. This is where the use of incontinence products can be especially helpful.
In menopausal women the cause is hormonal; oestrogen keeps the lining of the bladder healthy, and also the urethra the tube which carries the urine out of the body. The levels of oestrogen drops dramatically during the menopause, often with disastrous consequences. Because oestrogen stimulates the blood flow to the pelvic region, which in turn strengthens the pelvic muscles which hold the urine in place until you are ready to expel it. When oestrogen levels are reduced the pelvic muscles can become weaker, and in fact are not strong enough to keep the bladder closed, and the sufferer would benefit greatly from using reliable incontinence products.
Many women do not want to discuss the matter with their doctor, but incontinence supplies include incontinence pads which are slim unobtrusive pads which absorb urine. In many cases these pads give a solution to the problem, but they can be supplemented with incontinence pants or underwear as well.
Moderate
This is a more serious problem, giving rise to a larger urine overflow than a leak, but not ejecting a full bladder of urine. Men can also need incontinence products for this, as they can frequently dribble after going to the toilet, because the prostate can enlarge with age. In the majority of cases incontinence pads can alleviate the problem without having to buy other incontinence products, which means they can wear their own underwear.
Heavy
This loss of urine is often completely without warning and often it can't be stopped once it has started, it often means protecting the bed sheets and mattress is practical.
Severe
The bowel leaks fecal matter requiring extra protection more at the back than the front.
The choice of incontinence products such as protective underwear or adult diapers depends very much on the type of incontinence and the level of the problem. Seeking the best possible advice is very important and gaining a good understanding of your condition will enable you to select the best possible solution for you.
